Queensland Stamp Duty
When you purchase a property in Queensland (and other Australian States) you have to pay Stamp Duty on the purchase. This is based on the purchase price of the property and is less for a property bought as your principal place of residence than it is for property bought for investment.Stamp Duty is levied by the Commissioner for Stamp Duties and is on a sliding scale from 1.5% to 3.75% for investment property. For your principal place of residence it is levied at 1% up to a purchase price of $300,000 and at higher rates on prices over $300,000.
